Hockeyallsvenskan's new overtime rule has been criticized – and now the league is opening up the possibility of changing the rule mid-season, reports SVT. –When the rule was written, it was a bit square, says Erik Ryman, sports director for Hockeyallsvenskan, to the TV channel.

Before the season, the Swedish Hockey League introduced a new rule that means that the attacking team is prohibited from playing the puck out of the attacking zone in three-on-three games during overtime.

During the start of the season, both players and managers have been critical of the move.

–There is no clarity on anything. I don't know what was said. It feels like a really vague rule, Modo player Oscar Pettersson told Expressen.

Hockeyallsvenskan's sports director Erik Ryman tells SVT that the league has contacted the Swedish Ice Hockey Association and will have a meeting soon to see if it is possible to change the rule during the current season. One change could be that the rule only applies to games three on three, and not to games four on three, SVT writes.

–There is also an idea to look at whether we should move the assessment line itself from blue to red. To make it a little easier for judges and for ourselves, he says.

The rule was created to prevent teams from regrouping in the midzone and thus slowing down the pace.

After a quarter of the season, I am still positive, but there are things to improve on, says Erik Ryman.
