During March, April and May, France reached an average temperature of 13.8 degrees Celsius - "the warmest spring since measurements began in 1900," the weather agency Météo-France said.

Similar news comes from the British Isles, where England and Wales also experienced a record-breaking warm spring.

In the UK, temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius were recorded for six consecutive days at the end of May, also a record.

In Norway, the spring months were reported to have been 2.1 degrees above normal.

2026 will thus break the previous record from 2024, climate scientist Jostein Mamen told NRK.

The spring of 2025 was the third warmest spring on record. That year ended as the warmest in the Norwegian record books to date.
