An explosion occurred at a gate to an apartment building in northern Norrköping late Sunday evening. The explosion was the second in the city over the weekend. At the same time, police were investigating a suspected dangerous object in another area of the municipality.
Police confirm that three people have been arrested, two men under the age of 20 and a boy under the age of 15.
"The only thing I can say is that they are suspects in one or more of these three incidents we have had since yesterday," says police spokesperson Olle Älveroth.
According to P4 Östergötland, they are suspected of public danger and violation of the Explosive and Flammable Goods Act.
Accommodation was provided
The alarm about the explosion during the night of Monday came shortly after 11 p.m.
"We have just completed a search of the stairwell and knocked on all the doors. We have not found anyone injured and now our full focus is on gathering information about what exploded," said Martina Gradian, a police spokeswoman, shortly after midnight.
The National Bomb Squad was called to the scene and residents of the building were housed in their apartments overnight. The incident is being investigated as public destruction and a violation of the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods.
“Powerful blow”
A resident of the house felt the explosion.
It was like something heavy landed on the balcony, a dull, loud bang, the person tells Norrköpings Tidningar .
Earlier in the evening, at 10:34 p.m., an alarm was raised about a suspected dangerous object in a residential area outside the city. Residents in four houses were evacuated while the national bomb squad investigated the object.
"The only thing I can say is that it is a suspected explosive object that we are currently analyzing and investigating," says Olle Älveroth.
Investigating connection
During the night of Sunday, another explosion occurred at an apartment building in the city. Both cars and the building were damaged. A man in his 70s was taken to hospital, but the injuries were not reported to be serious.
"We are of course investigating whether the explosions are related," police spokesperson Martina Gradian said earlier.
