Devon and Cornwall Police said in a statement that "the suspect, who is a white British citizen, is in police custody."
Ann Widdecombe, 78, was found dead at her home in Devon, southwest England, on Thursday. Her body had suffered severe injuries, according to the BBC.
On Saturday, another man who had been arrested on suspicion of murder was released. He is no longer a suspect.
Widdecombe was a Conservative minister at the British Home Office and the Department of Employment and Social Affairs from 1994 to 1997 under Prime Minister John Major. In 2019, she became a Member of the European Parliament for the Brexit Party, which later became Reform UK.
