The Swiss Gino Caviezel crashed badly in the super-G race in Bormio. The 34-year-old, who had start number 1, received medical treatment on the slope before being flown away by helicopter with what appeared to be a leg injury.
As recently as yesterday, the Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin injured himself when he crashed during training for the downhill race. He was later operated on for a head bleeding, but his condition is now reported to be stable.
The 24-year-old Norwegian Fredrik Møller was the fastest in the super-G race and can thus notch up his first World Cup victory. Møller won by 20 hundredths of a second ahead of the Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr.
The only Swedish participant, Felix Monsén, did not reach the finish line.
