The Netflix series "Boots" – which follows a homosexual teenager in the US Marine Corps – has become one of the streaming service's most watched. This after the Pentagon called it "woke trash", according to Vanity Fair.

I assume we have to give the Pentagon some recognition there, says the series' creator Andy Parker to the magazine.

"Boots" premiered on Netflix on October 9 and takes place in the 1990s, when a homosexual teenager joins the US Marine Corps. On October 16, the Pentagon came out and criticized the series.

"We will not compromise our standards to satisfy an ideological agenda - unlike Netflix, whose management consistently produces and feeds its audience and children with woke garbage", said Pentagon press secretary Kingsley Wilson in a statement that also meant that the military is currently "restoring the warrior spirit" under the current administration.

US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth has long supported US President Donald Trump's ban on trans people in the military and has also ordered that the name of the US Navy ship USNS Harvey Milk be removed, named after the homosexual activist.

Within a week of the Pentagon's statement, "Boots" has doubled its audience and sailed up as the streaming service's second most watched title.
