The National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. has replaced Donald Trump's portrait and removed information about his two impeachment trials and the January 6, 2021, storming of the U.S. Capitol.

The new photograph, which can be seen in the exhibition “America’s Presidents,” was taken by White House photographer Daniel Torok, according to the Washington Post . It shows a grim-faced president standing and pounding his fists on his desk.

"For the first time ever, the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery is displaying an iconic photograph taken by the White House honoring President Trump," White House spokesman Davis Ingle said.

A spokesperson for the museum told NBC News that the information about the impeachment and the storming is available at the National Museum of American History, another Smithsonian museum. However, the spokesperson would not answer questions about whether the changes at the National Portrait Gallery were made at the direct request of the White House.

Donald Trump's administration has been pressuring the Smithsonian's museums with threats of budget cuts.
