Protests have broken out in Minneapolis after another fatal shooting by federal immigration police, ICE. "Nobody deserves to be shot; nobody deserves to be caught. It's more about that than anything else," Nora Lahm, one of the protesters, told the BBC.

Several ICE agents shot and killed a 37-year-old man in Minneapolis on Saturday, local time, sparking protests in Minneapolis and in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

All available Minneapolis police officers have been asked to report for duty, and the state governor has called in the National Guard, which is on site to assist police during the protests.

The site where the man was shot has been filled with mourners leaving bouquets of flowers and lighting candles.

Down the street, many have gathered to protest despite the cold. People in the crowd are shouting that ICE should leave the city, NBC News reports from the scene.

According to the Border Patrol, the 37-year-old intervened when ICE was about to arrest a “criminal immigrant,” and states that the man was armed and resisted. That description contradicts some available images, in which the man does not appear to be holding a gun.

Footage from the incident shows ICE agents wrestling the man to the sidewalk and then shooting him several times.

The man who was shot was a 37-year-old nurse who lived in the city. He was born in Illinois and was a U.S. citizen with no known criminal record. According to his family, he had been active in earlier protests against ICE.

The shooting is the third in three weeks in Minneapolis involving ICE.
