37-year-old Nadim has made over 100 national team appearances for the Danish national football team, and was part of the team that took European Championship silver in 2017. Over the years, she has represented major clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, as well as several teams in the North American professional league.
"With Nadia Nadim, we get an experienced player who has played at the highest level for many years and is very motivated and aiming to be selected for Denmark's European Championship squad this summer", says Hammarby sports manager Johan Lager to the club's website.
The loan agreement applies until the summer, and according to Aftonbladet, which was first with the news on Tuesday, Hammarby only needs to pay around one-tenth of the Dane's salary to Milan.
Nadia Nadim came to Denmark as a refugee from Afghanistan, after her father was murdered by the Taliban. In 2009, she became the first player in the Danish national team with a foreign background, and in 2018, Forbes magazine placed her 20th on the list of the most powerful women in international sports.
She has also been noticed for completing her medical education in 2022, in the middle of her professional career, and the same year, she received criticism for choosing to become an ambassador for the men's controversial World Championship in Qatar.
She defended her decision by highlighting that her story can make a real difference for girls' and women's rights in both Qatar and other countries in the region.
