In total, 7.8 million Swedish citizens living in Sweden are estimated to be able to vote in all elections in 2026, which is 190,000 more than in the last election year 2022.
The proportion of eligible voters who are 65 years or older continues to increase and is expected to account for 29 percent. The majority of the group are women and the municipalities with the highest proportion of older voters are Borgholm and Övertorneå.
Among first-time voters who are 18-21 years old, more than half of the voters are men. The most first-time voters are found in municipalities around the major cities of Stockholm, Göteborg and Malmö.
Next year's elections to the parliament, regional and municipal councils will be held on Sunday, September 13. In the elections to municipal and regional councils, foreign citizens are also allowed to vote and in that group, the number of eligible voters is estimated to be just over 590,000 people.
