Grocery retailers have been pressured from two directions at the same time. On the one hand, it has become more expensive to run a store - due to increased energy prices and rents, among other things. On the other hand, customers have been tighter with their wallets, says William Lindquist of the Swedish trade analysis company HUI Research to the newspaper.
Of 1,220 retailer-owned ICA companies, 152 made a loss in the latest available financial statements for the 2024/2025 financial year. This corresponds to 12.5 percent of ICA stores.
Among the ICA retailers that made the biggest losses are several within the ICA Kvantum segment.
