The Svea Court of Appeal changes the district court's verdict and sentences more perpetrators from the Foxtrot network for the murders of 14-year-olds Mohamed and Layth. Two men are now convicted of Layth's murder.

In the district court, three men were sentenced to life imprisonment for involvement in the murders. But no one was convicted of the murder of Layth, although a 33-year-old Foxtrot leader was convicted of involvement in both murders.

The Court of Appeal has now sentenced two people for the murder of Layth. A 32-year-old who has now been convicted of both murders will have his life sentence confirmed, and a 19-year-old will receive eight years in prison.

"The prosecutor has presented new evidence to the Court of Appeal regarding the murder in Hällkana and we have concluded that the collected evidence has clarified where, when and by whom the 14-year-old boy was murdered," says Court of Appeal Councilor Daniel Thorsell in a press release.

“Look more serious”

The 33-year-old who orchestrated the murders abroad via chats is now sentenced to incitement to murder instead of stamping.

Six more people are receiving long prison sentences for, among other things, aiding and abetting murder and preparation for murder. Among them is a 27-year-old man who was previously acquitted in the district court and who is now convicted of aiding and abetting.

"The case concerns crime within and between criminal gangs. It is about ruthless crimes with very high penalties. In several cases, the Court of Appeal has taken a more serious view of the crimes than the district court did," says Thorsell.

Pistols disappeared

The boys were found murdered in forest areas in Ösmo in Nynäshamn and Hällkana in Upplands-Bro outside Stockholm in July and August 2023, respectively.

According to the investigation, Mohamed had been murdered with a large number of stab wounds and Layth had probably been strangled to death.

The boys themselves are believed to have been involved in the Foxtrot network's plans to shoot people connected to the Dalen network. They ended up being kidnapped, beaten and later murdered themselves.

The motive was that the boys had stolen or misplaced two pistols that belonged to the network.
