The 29-year-old says he will make a World Championship decision within the next few days. The indoor World Championship in Nanjing outside Shanghai begins in two weeks.

It's an extremely long journey to get there. Just that will take a lot out of you. That's what's decisive. If it were in the nearby area, I would have gone 110 percent. Now we'll see, says Thobias Montler.

Can it be that you're saying no?

It's clear that it could be. I've said all along that I'll participate in the World Championship if I think my body and head feel good, and I'm motivated to compete. Right now, you shouldn't make any decisions. Right now, you're disappointed and a bit tired from the competition.

"Enormously disappointed"

He finished seventh in the men's European Championship long jump final in Omnisport arena in Apeldoorn. A disappointment after three straight silver medals in indoor championships.

I'm a competitive person. It's clear that I always want to take a medal and stand as high on the podium as possible. It's clear that I'm enormously disappointed.

Montler's 7,94 in the first round was his longest jump, and he finished seventh and second to last in the final.

Bulgarian Bozjidar best

The 29-year-old Montler was second in Europe this year with 8,23 before the European Championship and is qualified and selected for the World Championship. He made it to the European Championship final with a jump of 8,00 in the qualifying round on Thursday.

Bulgarian Bozjidar Sarabojukov took the European Championship gold with 8,13, ahead of Italian Mattia Furlani and Spanish Lester Lescay. The two latter jumped 8,12 – but Furlani had more longer approved jumps and thus took the silver medal.
