The flower-covered gravel path in front of the artist's house is known to many children's book readers through "Linnea in the Painter's Garden" by Christina Björk and illustrator Lena Andersson.

During the extreme summer heat in France, the harsh reality of Giverny has dried up, reports Kulturnytt on Swedish Radio.

"It's incredibly sad. It's the first time it's happened," gardener Rémi Lecoutre told France 24.

The eleven gardeners in Claude Monet's garden northwest of Paris have worked hard to save the floral splendour, including through targeted irrigation. However, the famous water lilies in the pond are thriving in the heat.
