Mjällby's 13th Allsvenskan season became the club's point-best so far. 50 points earned are three more than the previous record, which was noted during the pandemic season in 2020 when the team, like now, finished fifth.
The best version of Mjällby and that was the goal, says team captain Jesper Gustavsson to TT.
Mjällby made their record season despite selling key players Colin Rösler (Malmö FF) and Adam Ståhl (Djurgården) last summer. Add to that the fact that they released U21 national team players Otto Rosengren (Malmö FF) and Noah Persson (Young Boys) last year.
How is it possible to sell one key player after another and still keep yourselves in the top tier of the table?
A good group, everyone works towards the same goal. We train hard and have fun together, which actually makes a big difference, says Jesper Gustavsson.
As a result of the successful season, rumors are circulating that several of the club's players are interesting for larger clubs.
What do you think about Mjällby's future?
It looks bright. It's about not thinking we're something, but coming back down to earth and grinding just as hard as we did before. The goal should be to become better than this year, but we shouldn't think it will be easy, concludes the Mjällby captain.
