The painting, which is worth around 1.7 million kronor, was supposed to be packed for a beach holiday with its owners but was forgotten in the rush. The painting was later found in Seville by Andrés Hurtado, who saw it on the street and thought it was rubbish but took it home because he liked the gold frame. He was helped by AI, which was able to identify the painting as a genuine Sorolla. This was later confirmed by an auction house.
When Hurtado saw a wanted notice saying the painting had been reported stolen, he immediately contacted the police to clear up the misunderstanding. The artwork has now been returned to the family, who have promised Hurtado a reward.
