Brodin, who plays for the NHL's Minnesota Wild, has undergone surgery for a lower-body injury, his coach John Hynes said.
The sad news was expected, however. Earlier this week, Tre Kronor's national team captain Sam Hallam said he did not count on Brodin or Anaheim Ducks center Leo Carlsson, who recently had thigh surgery, for the Olympics.
Both Brodin and Carlsson have played in the most recent World Cup tournaments and in last year's Four Nations tournament with Tre Kronor.
"These are two fantastic hockey players and good people who look like they're going to miss the Olympics. I feel sorry for them personally. We're going to move on and see how we shape our team to give us the best possible conditions," Hallam told TT.
