The state covers the sick leave costs after two weeks. The first two weeks, the employers have to pay sick pay. Minister for Social Insurance Anna Tenje (The Moderate Party), comments on the costs that the state covers.

She writes to TT that the government does not have any proposal to change the rules, but that this can be changed in the future.

"The one who has reduced work capacity due to illness, for example after an operation, can apply for sickness benefit from the Social Insurance Agency. It is fundamental that compensation is given to the right person in the social insurance system, not least for the legitimacy and trust in the welfare system."

The question one can ask is how sickness benefit after cosmetic surgery is perceived by the one who has been rejected by the Social Insurance Agency, for example because they have been deemed uninsurable or able to perform other work.

"The same rights, opportunities and obligations apply to all who apply for sickness benefit. I have full confidence that the Social Insurance Agency makes the assessment of work capacity in each individual case" she writes, and adds: "No fast track for the one who has undergone cosmetic surgery exists, therefore."

Anna Tenje states that it is not the reason for the operation itself that is assessed when the Social Insurance Agency takes a stance on sickness benefit, but only the work capacity.
