Around eight million people took part in Saturday's nationwide protests, according to organizers. It was the third national protest under the slogan "No kings," which sharply criticizes Trump's leadership.

One of the largest rallies was held in Minneapolis, where organizers estimate that around 200,000 people attended.

In the twin city of Saint Paul, Bruce Springsteen was the headline act and performed the song "Streets of Minneapolis" - written as a tribute to Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were both shot dead by federal police in Minneapolis in January of this year.

"Their courage, sacrifice and names will not be forgotten," Springsteen said of the two Americans shot dead.

In total, more than 3,300 demonstrations were held around the United States on Saturday, including in New York, Washington, DC, Chicago and Los Angeles.

"We are here because we feel that the Constitution is under threat in a variety of ways. Things are not normal. They are not okay," veteran Marc McCaughey told AFP in Atlanta, Georgia.

Protests were also held in several places in Europe.
