The comment about the sanctions came in connection with al-Sharaa, leader of the Islamist movement HTS, which ousted the Assad regime, speaking with a British delegation on Monday.
Millions of Syrians have fled both within and outside the country since the civil war broke out in the wake of the protests that began with the Arab Spring in 2011.
During the conversation in London, al-Sharaa, according to his Telegram channel, "emphasized the importance of lifting all sanctions against Syria so that those who were forced to leave can return to their country".
On the domestic front, al-Sharaa (who has also used the pseudonym Abu Mohammed al-Julani) announced that the various militia groups in the war-torn nation will be dissolved and instead become part of a regular army.
"The factions will be dissolved and the warriors will be trained to become part of the defense department and all will be subject to the law", says al-Sharaa according to a statement on Telegram.
He also pointed out that a social contract must be established between the state and various communities in order to achieve "social justice".
