The break-in is said to have occurred early on Friday morning at his home outside Marseille.
Platini is said to have woken up to the sound and when he looked out the window, he is said to have seen a black-clad man outside the house.
Michel Platini then discovered that about 20 medals and trophies had been stolen, writes NTB and refers to the German news agency DPA.
Platini is not said to have been injured during the break-in.
Platini is considered by many to be French football's greatest player of all time. He has, among other things, won the prestigious Ballon d'Or award three times.
The award is given to the best player in the world for the season and exists for both men's and women's football.
Michel Platini also won the European Championship with France in 1984.
Platini was acquitted in March of corruption charges from his time as chairman of Uefa, the European football association.
Platini and Sepp Blatter, then chairman of the International Football Association (Fifa), were accused of corruption in connection with a major financial transaction in 2011 where Platini received two million Swiss francs, just over 24 million Swedish kronor.
