The incident occurred in Strömsund municipality.
"The female bear was killed, after which the hunt for her yearlings continued until a yearling was killed," said prosecutor Åse Schoultz in a comment when charges were brought against a total of six men for aggravated hunting offenses.
According to Östersund District Court, it was only proven that three of the six men participated in the subsequent hunt for the cubs. They were sentenced to prison for a felony, with terms between one year and one year and six months.
Two other men received suspended sentences for hunting offenses, while the sixth was sentenced only for aggravated hunting. Five of the men are Norwegian citizens.
Female bears accompanied by cubs are protected during licensed hunting. It is also illegal to hunt with a motorized vehicle in the manner in which the hunting was carried out.
