Back in October, when it was announced that the Venezuelan opposition leader would be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, she dedicated it to the Venezuelan people - and to US President Trump.
She received the prize in December. But after Venezuelan President Maduro was captured by US special forces over the weekend, sources say Trump does not want her as the new leader of Venezuela because he does not think she should have received the Peace Prize.
“Share it with him”
In an interview with American Fox News, Machado is asked if she has offered Trump the Peace Prize.
It hasn't happened yet, but I would really like to be able to tell him personally that we - the Venezuelan people, because this is a prize for the Venezuelan people - would like to give it to him and share it with him.
She praises the US's actions when they picked up Maduro over the weekend, and says that 30 million Venezuelans are now closer to freedom.
January 3 will go down in history as the day when justice defeated tyranny; it is a milestone.
Will return
Machado will return to Venezuela “as soon as possible,” she tells Fox News. Today, she is at an undisclosed location.
"I plan to return to Venezuela as soon as possible," she told the television channel.
She criticizes the current interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, who was vice president under the now-captured Nicolás Maduro. Machado calls her “one of the main architects of torture, persecution, corruption and drug trafficking” in the country.
"In free and fair elections, we will win with over 90 percent of the vote; I am convinced of that," Machado said.
President Nicolás Maduro was captured by US special forces in a raid over the weekend and taken out of the country to stand trial in New York.
