The man who carried out the fatal attack on a synagogue in Manchester last week made an emergency call during the act and swore allegiance to the Islamic State, according to the police.

Two people were killed when the perpetrator, a 35-year-old British citizen of Syrian origin, first drove into people outside the synagogue and then attacked with a knife. He was shot dead by police on the spot.

The perpetrator made a call to the police and claimed that he swore allegiance to the so-called Islamic State, says a spokesperson for the police's anti-terror unit in northwestern England on Wednesday.

The victims were two men, 53 and 66 years old. One of them was shot dead by mistake by the police. Three more people were seriously injured.

On Saturday, six people, three women and three men, were arrested who are suspected of being involved in the deed.

The incident is being investigated as a terrorist crime.
