Manchester City followed up this weekend's draw against Chelsea, in which they conceded a late equaliser, by once again dropping important Premier League points at home on Wednesday.
They drew 1–1 with Brighton.
City took the lead when Erling Braut Haaland scored from a penalty at the end of the first half, but Brighton equalised in the 60th minute through Kaoru Mitoma, who was played in by Swedish national team midfielder Yasin Ayari.
Ayari didn't have his best night. His late carelessness almost cost his team the win, and Haaland missed a great chance to make it 2-1 after Ayari's miscued pass.
Meanwhile, third-placed Aston Villa were held to a 0–0 draw away at Crystal Palace, with Victor Nilsson Lindelöf in central defence.
Both Manchester City and Aston Villa are five points behind Arsenal, who have the chance to extend their lead to eight points on Thursday, but that would require a victory in the big match at home against Liverpool.
