A former morgue director at the prestigious Harvard Medical School is sentenced to eight years in prison for stealing and selling body parts that had been donated for research.

The 58-year-old man has pleaded guilty to dealing in the stolen remains, including internal organs, brains, skin, hands, faces and dissected heads.

He was dismissed from Harvard in May 2023. The crimes were committed between 2018 and at least until March 2020.

Together with his wife, he took some of the body parts from Boston University home to New Hampshire, and others to locations in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, before sending them to buyers in other states.

Several of the buyers have also been convicted or are awaiting sentencing, according to a statement from the Department of Justice.

The wife is sentenced to one year in prison.
