Deficit of 0–2 after just over one and a half minutes in the premiere against Luleå (0–5 in the end).
Deficit 0–3 after the first period against Färjestad last time (2–6).
And when you thought that a hockey match could not start worse for Malmö – it started even worse in the home premiere against Leksand.
”Too bad”
Leksand scored on their first three shots and led 3–0 before seven minutes had been played.
I do not know what to say, said Malmö's Linus Öberg to TV4 Play after the first period.
Then Öberg had indeed arranged a reduction, but was still quite frustrated considering the 1–3 deficit.
It's too bad simply from our side. We are not with it, we are not awake for the third match in a row. We get ourselves into a real mess again, said Öberg and added:
No explanations are needed, no excuses, it's just go out and play.
Said and done. Carl Persson, who missed the initial two away matches when he and his partner are expecting a child, scored 2–3 after 32 seconds. Barely five minutes later, he played Janne Kuokkanen to 3–3. Leksand's Alexander Lundqvist intervened with a new leading goal for the guests before Persson pushed in 4–4 in powerplay with a few minutes left to the period break.
It's been two weeks since I played a match last. And you obviously want to make a little difference here when it's been tough in the first two matches, said Persson before the third period.
Brynäs' first win
The third period was goalless and already there Malmö had secured the season's first point. It became one more. Leksand got a cautious penalty and before it was executed, Janne Kuokkanen sent in his second goal of the match to secure the home win, 5–4 after overtime.
It was strong to turn and win today, says Malmö's Fredrik Händemark to TV4 Play.
Last year's finalist Brynäs also made sure to take the season's first win. Away against HV71, the Gävle team won 4–0. HV71 and Linköping (3–5 against Djurgården) are now alone in having zero points.
