Henrik Rydström's last match as Malmö FF coach was Wednesday's Europa League loss, 1–2 at home against Bulgarian Ludogorets.
On Friday, the club announced that Rydström "is being relieved" of his post as head coach. Assistant coach Theodor Olsson is also leaving.
"We have been able to note a lack of sporting achievements and results over a longer period, where we have supported and added resources along the way without achieving an improvement. This is also the reason why we have decided to go our separate ways with Henrik", says Malmö FF's chairman Anders Pålsson in a statement.
Värnamo next
MFF face bottom-of-the-table Värnamo at home on Sunday and then the team will be led by Anes Mravac, who was hired by the club at the beginning of the year and since then has coached affiliate club BK Olympic.
"For obvious reasons, I know this player group well from before and now it's about us being able to complete a really good match-preparing training and then go out and perform in the way that leaders, players and supporters want Malmö FF to do", says 36-year-old Mravac, who previously was a coach in Värnamo.
The reigning championship team was also a gold favorite before this allsvenska season, but has not been able to live up to expectations. With six rounds left, the team is sixth in the allsvenskan, 18 points behind series leader Mjällby.
Two consecutive golds
Rydström came to MFF before the 2023 season and led the team to two consecutive SM golds.
"We thank Henrik for his time in Malmö FF. Winning two SM golds and one cup gold, including a double, means that his coaching will forever have a place of honor in the sky blue history books", says Anders Pålsson.
