Food inspectors at Malmö's environmental administration stumbled upon 2,260 jars of Nutella by chance during an inspection last summer, reports Sydsvenskan. The chocolate-hazelnut cream was not traceable and may therefore not be sold in Sweden, but the administration may not, according to the law, dispose of the jars until the contents have been emptied.

Arvid Nordland, department head at the environmental administration in Malmö, says to Sydsvenskan that they lack the prerequisites and premises to empty the jars. They are also not aware of any actor who could do it.

We could seek a dispensation to be exempt. But then it is we ourselves who must handle the dispensation and we cannot give ourselves a dispensation. It becomes a catch-22, he says to the newspaper.

The administration wants the legislation to be reviewed and is now going to send a petition to the government.
