The centre-back talent has been more or less a given in Tony Gustavsson's national team, but will not be used in the two final World Cup qualifying matches, away to Denmark and at home to Italy.
"We knew it was a gamble to bring Elma. We had hoped to have her with us at the training camp and get her ready for the match," said Sweden national team coach Tony Gustavsson in a press release.
Veteran Nathalie Björn has also been injured, and the squad now only has three experienced centre-backs: Amanda Ilestedt, Bella Andersson and Sofia Reidy.
Instead, Häcken's forward Anna Anvegård is called into the team.
Sweden will meet Denmark in Odense on June 5 and Italy in Gothenburg on June 9. With two victories, Sweden will qualify for the 2027 World Cup. If they lose to Denmark, Sweden will instead focus on the playoffs.
