Ludvig Åberg was ice-cold with the putter during the second round of the Truist Championship outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The world's sixth-best player was among the better ones in the starting field with his driver, but the shots into the green and the putting were worse. Åberg racked up 17 straight, but on the 18th and final hole, it was a bogey for 71 strokes (+1).
With three strokes under par in total, the 25-year-old drops to a tied 33rd place.
It went better for veteran Alex Norén, who is back after a long injury layoff. Norén was on his way to a top-ten placement ahead of the weekend, but a bogey on the final hole meant that the 42-year-old had to settle for two strokes under par for the day.
Norén – who hasn't played since August last year – lies in a tied 15th place, but is with –5 total only two strokes from a tied fourth place.
American Keith Mitchell leads on –12 ahead of Shane Lowry, Ireland, (–11) and Sepp Straka, Austria (–10).
The competition is a so-called signature competition for the top players on the PGA tour, and all players get to play all four.
Next week, this year's second major competition will be played. Then, the PGA Championship will be decided at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
