Last Sunday, Ludvig Åberg finished seventh in the major tournament US Masters at Augusta National after having been in the lead with two holes left to play.
Last week, I lost my momentum. On Monday morning, I felt almost a bit hungover, even though I didn't drink a single drop of alcohol, said Åberg about the Masters adventure at a press conference ahead of the major tournament RBC Heritage.
The Masters winner Rory McIlroy – the Northern Irishman who has now won all four major tournaments – is not participating this week, but the tournament in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, is one of eight PGA tour tournaments where only the best get to play.
For Åberg, it was not a high-scoring round on the first day. He struggled with his approach shots to the green and once there, his putter was not hot. The world number five finished two strokes under par.
The reigning champion Scottie Scheffler, USA, was hot and is tied for second on –7. The hottest of all was his compatriot Justin Thomas, who, after eleven birdies among other things, tied the course record on 61 strokes for –10.
No qualifying limit is used in the tournament, which means that all 72 players get to continue playing over the weekend.
