Tottenham have had a miserable season and are in danger of being relegated from the Premier League. The midfielder himself has been on the injury list on and off. It was long in doubt whether he would be fit in time for the national team's World Cup play-offs.
Bergvall doesn't want to talk about the situation in the club team.
I'm focusing on where I am and that's with the national team. What happens after that is up to us.
So he talks about the national team - and the bright light he sees at the end of the tunnel.
"It will be a tough match against a good Poland who pose many threats, but the focus is of course on us. We will do what we are good at and of course make it to the World Cup," he says.
“I feel ready”
It's probably one of the biggest games of my life. It's just about going out there and giving it my all and trying to contribute what I can if I get to play.
Bergvall made a brief appearance in the 3-1 victory against Ukraine in Valencia on Thursday.
Ready for 90 minutes?
I feel ready, I feel fresh. It's hard to say if I can do 90 minutes because I haven't done it in a while.
What did you get from the brief appearance?
It felt good. What was it? 15 minutes into the game we were leading 3–0. There was a lot of defending and holding the ball.
What is the hardest thing about coming back from an injury?
The body is the difficult part, but it feels like you're coming back quickly and can do what you did before.
What does it mean to you to reach the World Cup?
It's been a dream since I was little to represent Sweden in a World Cup. But the job has to be done on Tuesday.
Getting to know Potter
Lucas Bergvall barely had time to get to know national team coach Graham Potter when he took over last fall. A concussion forced him to cut his time at the Marbella meeting short in November.
The impression after a week with the Englishman is good. However, Bergvall does not want to delve into discussing the team's transformation since Potter took over after replacing Jon Dahl Tomasson.
It's hard to compare coaches. You try to focus on what you have here. Potter has done incredibly well at different clubs, like Östersund and Brighton.
He is a coach who is incredibly good at bringing the group together. We saw that against Ukraine, how we played and how we worked for each other.
Facts: How Sweden goes to the World Cup
After the victory against Ukraine, a playoff final against Poland awaits at home at the Strawberry Arena in Solna on Tuesday.
If the match is tied after regular time, extra time (2 x 15 minutes) and possibly penalty kicks will follow.
The winner goes to the World Cup.
The World Cup finals will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. If Sweden reaches the World Cup, they will face Tunisia, the Netherlands and Japan in a group.
The last time Sweden played in the World Cup was in 2018. Then the team reached the quarterfinals where they lost to England (0–2).
