A locum doctor who worked for six weeks at a health centre in central Sweden is being reported to the Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo) – after, among other things, making diagnoses that do not exist, writes The Medical Journal.
When the regular doctor returned, a number of discrepancies were noticed, and medical secretaries also reacted to not recognising diagnoses in his dictations.
The report states that the doctor did not work based on scientific evidence and proven experience, and showed signs of lacking competence.
According to the deviation reports, the locum doctor, for example, did not initiate investigations or write referrals, despite suspicions of serious diseases such as leukaemia, colon cancer, and MS. He also used a diagnosis that does not exist and acted "out of touch with reality".
The doctor is feared, according to the report, to pose a threat to patient safety.
No patients are reported to have suffered serious harm.
