Liverpool toughens stance against the extensive black ticket market. Last season, the club banned 1,114 people for life, including eleven season ticket holders, according to BBC.

According to BBC, the club has also closed down as many as 145,000 ticket accounts over the past two years.

The problem is far from isolated to Liverpool. The black market trade has long plagued Premier League clubs, where resellers using bot programs and fake identities buy up tickets in large quantities – to then sell them on at heavily inflated prices.

BBC also reports that around 500 people were denied entry to the home arena Anfield last season. They were stopped when they tried to get in with so-called "burner phones", disposable phones used to make tracking more difficult.

Selling tickets on is illegal in the UK. Despite this, the market continues to grow through websites based abroad – beyond British legislation.
