Sighed heavily did Linn Grant also out on the course when she missed the par putt on the 17th hole, her eighth hole for the day.
Already there she had made five bogeys – and what was meant to be a climb in the results list became the opposite. Three times the misses came despite Grant having short wedge shots in towards the green.
Spurted in vain
Grant then went the last ten holes three under par. But the 26-year-old's recovery was not enough and with +3 total (72 and 73 strokes) she has already played out in this year's fourth major.
I just tried to play to make it a bit fun again, says Grant about the finish.
I got a few birdies, but then it's just annoying that I make a three-putt on nine (the last hole). It probably means that I will miss the "cut" by one stroke, considering how the rest of the season has been…
Grant was right: +2 became the qualifying limit and she has now missed it in seven of her nine latest competitions. An unusual situation for Grant who until this year had been the most stable of the blue and yellow stars.
The qualifying limit was not cleared by Maja Stark either and after +4 total she refused again to answer questions afterwards. Anna Nordqvist (+6) and Ingrid Lindblad (+7) were even further from getting to work on the weekends.
Sagström alone remains
It will at least Madelene Sagström, with difficulty, do. After visiting the water on both holes 16 and 18, she barely cleared the qualifying limit on +2 – and at least ensured that the largest blue and yellow major fiasco on the women's side since 1990 was prevented.
Then, in the former Nabisco Championship, was the last time a women's major was decided without Swedes on the weekend.
Swedish women's golf is extremely strong and we have had a great year. Maja may still have a little "hangover" after the win in the US Open. It's golf, it's clear that it's not fun but you shouldn't root too much in it, says Sagström about the Swedish effort in French Évian-les-Bains.
Somi Lee, South Korea, leads on –10. Grace Kim, Australia, shadows on –9 and Jennifer Kupcho, USA, is third on –8.
