Sighed heavily did Linn Grant also out on the course when she missed the par putt on the 17th hole, her eighth hole for the day.
Already there she had made five bogeys – and what was meant to be a climb in the results list became the opposite. Three times the misses came despite Grant having short wedge shots in towards the green.
I think I'm still hitting the ball well. But I ended up right in between clubs on several holes and chose the wrong club all the time. Then it's not super easy situations, you're often in quite a slope on the fairway here. So not only are you between clubs, you also have to figure out how to hit the ball. So yes, you understand. It's tough, says Grant to TT.
Rushed in vain
The 26-year-old was at that point +6 total and the qualifying limit – which is likely to end up at +1 or +2 – was far away.
Grant then played the last ten holes three under par. But the recovery was not enough and with +3 total (72 and 73 strokes) she has already finished playing in this year's fourth major.
I just tried to play to make it a bit fun again, says Grant about the finish.
I got a few birdies, but then it's just tough that I make a three-putt on nine (the last hole). It probably means I'll miss the "cut" by one stroke, considering how the rest of the season has been…
Then Grant sighs again.
Until this year, she has been the one among the Swedish golf stars who has maintained the highest level, and missed qualifying limits have been extremely rare.
British Open awaits
Now she has instead missed the "cut" in seven of her nine latest starts. Next time Grant tees off is in three weeks, when the British Open – the last major of the year – awaits at Royal Porthcawl.
I'm going home after this week and training on what I need to train on – whatever that is? Then we'll go a few days earlier to Wales and play a bit before the British Open, try to get into the links game.
Also Ingrid Lindblad missed the qualifying limit, +7 total.
Maja Stark, Madelene Sagström and Anna Nordqvist play their second rounds during the afternoon. In what looks like it could become a pitch-black Swedish major, Stark and Sagström are doing the best, both +1 at the beginning of the round.
Leading is South Korean Somi Lee, at –10.
