Two bogeys under the first nine holes, and a triple bogey on hole 14. Ingrid Lindblad got a tough start to her first major tournament of the season and lies, despite three birdies, two strokes over par after 17 holes.
A storm on its way to Texas, where the Chevron Championship is being played north of Houston, caused the first round to be interrupted.
Lindblad was one of 24 players who did not manage to complete her round. But after 17 holes, the road to the top looks long for the Swede, who currently lies in a shared 77th place.
The 25-year-old Lindblad made a big splash when she took home the victory at the LPGA tournament in Los Angeles last week, a tournament that was only her third on the tour.
Frida Kinhult, who managed to complete her entire round before play was interrupted, played best among the Swedes in Texas. With a result of two under par, she now lies in a shared 16th place.
She is five strokes behind the leading duo – Haeran Ryu, South Korea, and Liu Yan, China – who went through the first round in 65 strokes.
Both Linn Grant and Maja Stark played the round at par, which gave them a shared 34th place, while Linnea Ström went around in one stroke over par. Madelene Sagström and Pernilla Lindberg both ended up two over par after 18 holes.
Anna Nordqvist played in the same ball as Ingrid Lindblad and lay +3 when play was interrupted.
It went even worse for world number one and title defender Nelly Korda. The American star made four consecutive bogeys early in the round and finished on 77 strokes, five over par and among the worst players in the entire starting field.
