Several of the country's largest races have continued to attract large starting fields during the year.
Stockholm half-marathon set a new record with 20,000 runners. Göteborgsvarvet had its best record since 2014, when the race was the largest in the world, and during the Lidingöloppshelgen weekend, over 33,000 participants are expected.
The group that is increasing the most is young women.
One of them is social media creator Malin Gabrielsson, who, together with Lidingöloppet, wants to highlight the phenomenon of "slow running". She is not a regular runner herself and says that before the collaboration, she could not even run a kilometer.
I think the whole journey is about inspiring people to dare to start running and that it's okay not to be fast, as long as you get out, she says.
Running without prestige
For the 30-kilometer race, 40 percent more young women are registered this year compared to last year. An increase that Krister Svensson, CEO of Lidingöloppet, believes is largely due to social media.
I think many young women have come to the conclusion that it is quite prestige-free to run, says Svensson.
The organizer behind Stockholm half-marathon also sees the same trend.
Now that running has become so big and trendy, and that there are profiles that create content around running, we have become a natural stop when people talk about running, says Sebastian Wallin.
At least as important
Influencer Malin Gabrielsson describes herself as one of the many running profiles, but means that her platform is to stand out.
It's very important that the platform for fast running influencers exists too, but my platform is at least as important, says Gabrielsson.
She says that the reactions since the start have been positive.
Just really nice. Comments like: "God, how nice to see a more human pace".
Under the concept Lidingöloppet, several races for different classes with varying distances are included. During the weekend of 26-28 September, everything from children's races to the classic Lidingöloppet 30 kilometers will be held.
Over 33,000 runners are expected to come to the start in one of the races.
Friday, September 26: Lidingöfemman, Lidingörullet, and Lidingöruset.
Saturday, September 27: Lidingöloppet 30 km, Lidingöloppet 15 km, and Lidingöloppet 10 km and 4 km respectively.
Sunday, September 28: Rosa Bandet-loppet 10 km, Lilla Lidingöloppet, and Lidingö knattelopp.
