Ben-Gvir's statements about killing "30 or 40" Gazans every day, and that "they are not even human", have drawn strong criticism from the outside world.

At the same time, there are different legal systems for Palestinians and Israelis and an obvious risk of Palestinians being executed, according to the Left Party's foreign policy spokesperson Håkan Svenneling.

He now thinks the Swedish government must act.

We think that Sweden should be able to refer the situation we have now with Itamar Ben-Gvir to the International Criminal Court, ICC, and its prosecutor, under Article 14 of the Rome Statute, to be investigated for crimes against apartheid, crimes against humanity or persecution of an ethnic group, Svenneling says.

He points out that Sweden has referred situations regarding Russia's war in Ukraine to the ICC.

Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) calls Ben-Gvir's statements "inhumane" and will push for sanctions against him from the EU, which the government believes is more effective than if Sweden proceeds on its own.
