To find a larger total grain harvest than this year – at 6.3 million tons – you have to go back to 1984, according to Statistics Sweden. And compared to the average of the previous five years, this year's increase is 21 percent.
"A record-large winter wheat area combined with an early spring crop and much-needed rainfall in late spring laid the foundation for the large harvest," writes Statistics Sweden.
This year's grain harvest consists of 56 percent winter wheat.
"The per hectare yield of winter wheat of 7.5 tons per hectare is among the highest ever observed," writes Statistics Sweden.
The yield per hectare of spring barley and oats amounted to 5.5 tons and 4.7 tons, respectively.
But other crops are also at unusually high harvest levels:
"The total harvest of rapeseed and turnip is estimated at 405,000 tons, which is the second largest ever," writes Statistics Sweden.
"The total pea harvest is estimated at 85,000 tons, which is 15 percent more than last year's harvest and 24 percent above the five-year average," adds Statistics Sweden.
