Five-goal scorer in the World Cup final against Finland - and his sixth gold medal secured. But the 9–1 victory against Finland may have been Christoffer Edlund's last appearance for the national team. "I think this will be the highlight of my national team career," he told Radiosporten.

Golden helmets were placed on the Swedish players after the final in front of a packed stadium of 3,000 spectators.

For Christoffer Edlund, the sixth World Cup gold medal was perhaps his last.

The top scorer from Villa-Lidköping scored five goals - including three of Sweden's first four goals.

"It's fantastic to be able to help the team and Sweden in this way," he told Radiosporten, and he explained his decision to leave the national team by saying that he wants to spend more time with his family.

Won the scoring league

The five final goals also meant Edlund was the World Cup's top scorer with 24 goals - one goal ahead of World Cup debutant William Arvidsson, who was scoreless in the final.

It was a hot and grueling first half in the final, with Sweden taking a 3-0 lead.

The half ended when Finland's Ville Hämäläinen, who lives in Nässjö, took down Sweden's Martin Landström with an ugly elbow to the head.

Landström became very groggy and had to be helped off the ice by teammates.

Hämäläinen was shown the red card and Finland had to play the rest of the match with one man less.

Booed out

When the second half started, Landström was back on the ice and was booed by the home crowd every time he touched the ball.

Sweden struck gold right after the break against their decimated opponents, scoring four goals between the 50th and 57th minutes. 3-0 became 7-0 and the rest of the match was a blue-yellow procession.

The World Cup final was over and the rest was a blue-yellow parade towards Sweden's 15th World Cup gold of all time.

Finland won the group stage match on Friday evening, 4-3, but after the red card, they ultimately had no chance in the final.
