The neighbors' balconies and windows were much worse affected. Therefore, Natalya Lytvynova sees it as God protected her home. The district where she lives has previously been relatively spared from Russia's attacks, but tonight came the large air strike.
I was not here during the night. This morning I came here and my neighbors told me that it was the most frightening sound they had heard since 2022. They were really very scared, she says.
"More dangerous to go out"
The attack claimed many human lives. Where Natalya Lytvynova was during the night, in another part of Kyiv, the sounds of the attack and sirens were heard. Despite this, she chose, like many other residents of the city, not to go to a shelter.
When you hear this sound for more than three years, you accept it as thunder and rain.
Ukrainian Kateryna Zorya, living in Sweden, is visiting Kyiv right now. She heard the attack during the night and went to a corridor in the building where she lives.
It is often more dangerous to go out, she says.
Usually, if the attack is not so large, you can sleep through it, but this time it was impossible, she says.
Shaking walls
One could actually hear how intense the air defense was.
After attacks, Kyiv residents contact colleagues and friends to find out how it has gone, says Kateryna Zorya. If someone has been affected, they help each other to support.
Despite reports of many dead and extensive damage, it is often difficult to take in the overall consequences.
A place where there was a small ice cream festival and where several of the most popular restaurants in Kyiv are located, it is completely destroyed now. It is always the small things that affect you the most, she says.
