Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) says that the government and authorities are on their toes when it comes to potential spreading effects from the attacks between Israel and Iran. We currently have no signs that anything serious is directed specifically at Sweden. But I do not rule out that something could occur.

The Prime Minister comments on the Israeli attacks against Iran at a press conference. In addition to the gravity of the situation in the Middle East, he warns that the heated situation can have consequences even in Sweden.

We do not want the conflicts of the Middle East on Swedish streets and squares. What is happening now increases the risk, and we will do everything we can to avoid it, says Kristersson.

I feel very secure that we are on our toes when it comes to the risk of other spreading effects – terrorist activities, sympathy actions in different ways that could affect us.

Several incidents

The conflict between Israel and Iran has already been marked on Swedish soil.

For example, the Security Police have said that several incidents that occurred at the Israeli embassy in Stockholm may be linked to Iran. The attack on the Israeli military-technical company Elbit Systems in Gothenburg last autumn is also suspected to be linked to Iran.

Monitored with drones

In Stockholm, the police have previously this year monitored several areas with drones due to increased threats against Jewish and Israeli interests. However, they do not want to go out with information on how the latest developments affect their work.

We are following the situation and there is a surveillance on the objects that are protected. Otherwise, it is here something we do not comment on, but it is clear that we have noted the events of last night, says Robert Sennerdal, press spokesperson for Region Stockholm.

Regarding Swedes who are in Iran, the Swedish embassy in Tehran takes various precautionary measures for Swedish staff on site, according to Ulf Kristersson.
