But before that, a long series of questions need to be answered, says spokesperson Dmitrij Peskov to reporters in Moscow.

Peskov refers to "questions that are up in the air, which no one has been able to answer so far".

Since Donald Trump took office in January, he has tried to establish a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. That has not happened. In March, Moscow rejected a Ukrainian-American proposal for an unconditional and complete ceasefire, and instead presented a proposal for a partial ceasefire in exchange for lifted sanctions from the West.

The matter is now at a standstill.

Last Friday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed that Trump will not "fall into the trap of endless negotiations" with Russia.

We are talking to Russia. We want them to stop. I don't like the bombings. The bombings continue and continue, said Trump on Sunday.
