After the announcement of the Nobel Prize, László Krasznahorkai has stayed out of the public eye, but SVT's reporter Ann-Linn Guillou has met him in his hometown of Szentendre, where he has lived since the age of 25.
Krasznahorkai has made no secret of his critical stance towards Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's nationalist rule.
Orbán also offered his congratulations when the prize was announced, but in a way that Krasznahorkai describes as “formal.” When asked what his relationship with Hungary is like today, the author likens the country to an alcoholic mother who beats her children.
And yet I love her. The question is how and why? The answer is: because she is my mother. That's enough about my homeland.
"The Nobel Portrait: László Krasznahorkai" will be shown on SVT Play and SVT2 on 4/12.
