The celebration began with a military parade in central London, where over a thousand soldiers marched past Buckingham Palace and were met with a salute from the king. Among the military personnel were, among others, eleven Ukrainian soldiers waving their yellow-blue flags, a reminder that war is being waged in Europe even now.
On Monday, the end of the war has also been celebrated, among other places, in Denmark and the Netherlands. The official day for the end of the war in Europe is May 8, when several European countries have a public holiday. Then, the British celebration will also conclude with two minutes of silence.
It's not just the military and the royal family who are celebrating in the UK. As part of the celebration, all pubs are allowed to stay open two hours longer than usual on Thursday.
