In Monday's speech to parliament, the authoritarian leader accused the United States of global "state terrorism and aggression" and promised that North Korea would play a greater role in a united front against Washington in the future.
Kim says North Korea will respond to other countries’ confrontation or "peaceful coexistence" in kind. He is open to dialogue with the Trump administration, as long as it accepts North Korea as a nuclear power - an echo of his speech at the ruling Workers’ Party congress in late February.
Just as in previous speeches, Kim highlighted South Korea as North Korea's greatest enemy and the "most hostile state."
