Frida Karlsson won the World Cup premiere in Ruka, Finland. Norwegian Heidi Weng came second and ruined the possibility of an all-Swedish trio on the podium. She will always be a bit of a pain, says Karlsson after the race.

Frida Karlsson got her World Cup debut in Ruka exactly where she wanted.

Good start, stable finish, victory and a small slip-up against Norwegian rival Heidi Weng who, with her second place, came ahead of Moa Ilar (third) and Ebba Andersson (fourth).

Yes, she will always be a bit of a nuisance, says Karlsson.

Weng himself only had praise to offer regarding Sweden's achievements.

They are great. The Swedes always do very well here in Ruka.

Frida Karlsson dominated the 10-kilometer race from start to finish.

"It felt good. I thought I would win in Gällivare (last weekend) too. You never know," she says.

Was it the Tenerife effect?

Yes, maybe!

Karlsson emphasizes how much she enjoys Ruka.

The course suits me very well. There is a lot of running. It doesn't matter if you just run on your skis. It is beneficial to just close your eyes and pound on your skis.

Karlsson also took the opportunity to pay tribute to Swedes Moa Ilar and Ebba Andersson.

It was a great Swedish day today. For a while it was probably first, second and third Sweden. We have great surf on the skis. It's a good team effort today.

The distance that Karlsson won is not available at the Olympics, so freestyle is the only event that matters. That's nothing that worries the star.

There is an even better distance for me there, I would say, with 50 kilometers classic.

Even though the effort was a testament to his form, Karlsson doesn't really want to think about the Olympics yet.

"To be honest, I'm not thinking about the Olympics that much today. Today I'm here. You have to be a little present sometimes too," she says.
