Gunnar Strömmer visited on Friday Järfälla municipality, northwest of Stockholm, where two men were recently shot dead and two people were shot injured a few days later.
On Monday, he made a visit to Lunden in Gothenburg, at the site where two men were found shot dead in a car last week.
The notable events show that there is much work left, he notes.
There is no doubt that the conflict level in the criminal gangs is high. There is extensive violence capital, a great ruthlessness and there is a latent risk of new violent acts and new violence spirals, says Gunnar Strömmer.
It is a long way to go and a very hard work that lies ahead of us.
”Instills fear”
The number of shootings has, however, decreased in recent years. At the same time, the number of explosions increased during the first half of the year and also in recent days, several explosions have occurred in different places.
I am very worried about the development, says Gunnar Strömmer.
The explosions are very dangerous and serious in a partly different way. They instill fear in an entire residential area.
Changed legislation
To address the problem, the legislation on legal explosives has been changed, among other things. Sweden is also working at the EU level, according to Gunnar Strömmer, to address pyrotechnics that are prohibited here, but instead are imported from other countries.
We are doing a lot now to ensure that we make a similar move when it comes to explosions as when it comes to shootings, he says.
