Doumbouya led the military coup that forced President Alpha Condé from power in September 2021. He was then sworn in as president for an indefinite period.
A year later, he presented a timetable for a transition to civilian rule through elections in December of this year. He then promised that he and others in the junta would not run.
The junta has ruled Guinea with an iron fist since taking power, and two opposition leaders have been forced into exile while their parties have been banned in the country.
If Doumbouya wins, he will remain in power for another seven years.
